Maurice Asselin born in 1882 in Orlans and died in 1947 in Neuilly-sur-Seine is a French painter and engraver attached to the School of Paris.
Maurice Asselin is best known for his still lifes and nudes. Another recurring theme in her work is motherhood, which has reached rare levels of delicacy. He also devoted himself with skill to watercolor and landscape painting of his beloved Brittany.
Maurice Asselin was born on June 24, 1882 in Orlans where his parents (the father was a coachman, the mother ran the tobacco shop La Pipe d'or at the corner of rue Sainte-Catherine and rue Jeanne-d'Arc ) will soon take over a restaurant destined to have a certain reputation, the inn on rue Sainte-Catherine.
After secondary studies at the Sainte-Croix school which stopped in the second year, he was placed in 1899 as a calico apprentice in the fabric house Aux Travailleurs, place de la Rpublique in Orlans, then, in 1900, in a Sentier textile house in Paris. A distracted employee, he returned to spend the years 1901-1903 in Orlans (his father died in 1902) on his sketchbook, which in fact he had never parted with since childhood, he captured views of Orlans, Tigy, from Saint-Hilaire-Saint-Mesmin, before returning to Paris where he was a student of Fernand Cormon at the cole nationale suprieure des beaux-arts.
This academic teaching, which he did not like, was compensated by a thorough observation of Paul Czanne and the impressionists at the Luxembourg Museum and the Louvre Museum. It was interrupted by tuberculosis, undoubtedly acquired in the poorly heated room he occupied under the roofs. from the 15th arrondissement to take him to hospitalization in an Auvergne sanatorium.Original frame
